Wirral U3A May Bank Holiday Expedition

Recently the weather hasn't always been kind to the Monday walkers but on 1st May Bank Holiday we were blessed with good walking weather. Meeting at the Red Cat in Greasby the intrepid Fab Five, Linda, Chris, Giles, Joy and Angela set off for their stroll along the footpaths of Wirral leading to Hoylake and West Kirby.
We passed the old pond and water pump that in times past supplied water to the residents of Greasby, situated in the apply named Pump Lane.
Our first footpath led us over a footbridge, across fields, emerging into woodland dotted with spring very much in evidence.
We crossed a large field, a pasture for ponies and horses, Joy gained a follower, a beautiful chestnut mare, after a pat on the nose and no apples forthcoming wandered back to the herd.
The views showed the wide expanse of open land and we all agreed how lucy we are to have lots of walking opportunities in Wirral.

The next section of the walk passed a lovely lake, we saw Mallards and a mother Coot with chicks, we also spotted a Llama looking down on us from his perch.
We passed orchards, pastures and dog training fields before reaching the now disused Hoylake Golf course.
Traversing the old course we walked into West Kirby for a well-earned drink at West Kirby Tap, unfortunately their kitchen was not open so some of the group went to Ashton Park to join their Bank Holiday Event and find food.
