Events

In this section, there is information about two types of events: meetings and outings.

Meetings
We meet every other Monday, except for a break from mid-July to the beginning of September and a short break over Christmas and New Year, in Upton Victory Hall Tennis and Bowls Club which is off Rake Lane, Upton Village, CH49 0US. Please note that this is our meeting venue since September 2024. Tea and coffee are served at 10.00am when there is time to look at the groups/events notice board or catch up on any gossip before our speaker at 10.45am. Our programme of talks is well underway - details of speakers and their topics are shown below. Please note that our last meeting before Christmas and the last one of the season does not have a speaker but an enjoyable entertainment programme organised by the Social Committee.

There is a small charge for attending the Monday meeting. Unfortunately from September 2024 we have had to increase the charge to £3 a meeting - although we've held the membership fee at £10. When you pay your annual subscription you will be asked to confirm your personal details.

At the start of each meeting is a raffle organised by the social committee. The proceeds of this go towards subsidising the Anniversary lunch. It also pays for the entertainment at our last meeting before Christmas and the one before the summer break in July.

Outings
The Social Committee organises throughout the year a number of outings to different types of venues. You can often bring a friend/family member/partner. The outings are sometimes organised jointly with other u3as. There is a list of planned outings is shown below.
You can reserve your ticket(s) and pay any deposit at the Social Committee desk at the Monday meeting.
Under Outings, trips by Groups are also listed.

NW Region 2026 Summer School
This will be held August 11-14 at Manchester Metropolitan University. There are a range of courses (booking is required). The link to the NW Region Website can be found on the Links page.

Coffee Mornings, Williamson Gallery Café
During the season, there is the opportunity for members to meet up on alternate Wednesdays in the weeks when there is no meeting for a cup of coffee and a chat at 11:00 in the Café in the Williamson Gallery Cafe, Birkenhead. Everyone is welcome.

MEETINGS

OUTINGS

June 15th
Sex, Drugs and Queen Victoria
Mike Haskins is a member of the Wirral History and Heritage Association. He will tell us how the most notorious and dangerous illegal drugs of the 20th and 21st centuries were first launched during Queen Victoria’s reign by well established and reputable pharmaceutical companies as mass produced commercially available patent medicines!

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all our members including feeling comfortable with the content of the presentations by our speakers. To ensure that we ask our speakers to sign a statement which sets out our requirements. You can read a copy of that statement here:

Watch this space for 2026 outings.

You can read about the trip to the Central Library, World Museum and Walker Art Gallery on the News Page.
